Deer Isle
DISES assistant principal to resign

by Colin Powell
After three years as assistant principal at Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School, Jane O’Conner has decided to resign. The CSD 13 School Board heard the news from Superintendent Bob Webster at a special meeting, August 11.

Despite declining enrollment, which has required the board to continually consider the necessity of that position, both Webster and DISES principal Catherine Ring recommended the position be filled for next year. According to the minutes, the board discussed some possibilities for combining other responsibilities with the position but eventually came to a consensus that, for the current year, they would proceed with looking for a replacement.

Webster also gave a brief report, noting that the Department of Education has announced additional funding, allowing a $5,000 grant for the DIS Fresh Fruits and Vegetables program.
