Stonington
Brewer is new selectman

by David Walsh
By a 14-vote margin, Donna Brewer was elected selectman over Adelbert Gross, 56 to 42, during Monday’s 7 a.m. to noon town election. Both ran as write-in candidates.

Brewer was sworn in before the open town meeting convened and took her place at the head table with the other selectmen, Evelyn Duncan, Christopher Betts, Richard Larrabee Sr. and Steven Robbins and town manager Kathleen Billings-Pezaris.

There were two seats available for the Stonington Sanitary District which were won by Elisabeth Glover for in-district with 12 votes, and Heather Mathews for out-of-district with 33 votes.

There were two seats open on the CSD Board. The winners in Stonington were Mark Cormier of Deer Isle with 71 votes and Walter Kumiega III, also of Deer Isle, with 91 votes. Stephen York of Stonington, who ran as a write-in candidate, received 51 votes.

With Deer Isle’s votes counted, Cormier and Kumiega were reelected to their school board seats.
