by Caroline Spear Papers for open municipal positions are now available in Deer Isle. Open seats are first selectman (three-year term); and town clerk, treasurer/tax collector and road commissioner (all one-year terms). Those wishing to submit articles for consideration on this year’s Deer Isle town meeting warrant must do so by Friday, January 15. First-time articles must be accompanied by a petition signed by at least 10 percent of the number of votes cast in the last gubernatorial election, in this case 936; so the petition must be signed by at least 93 people. If an article was on the warrant in 2009, a request must be made to the selectmen before the deadline. In Stonington, papers are available for one three-year term on the board of selectmen, and five seats on the sanitary district board. They are: two seats (three-year terms) in district; two seats (one-year term) in district; and one seat (one-year term) at large. Those wishing to submit articles for consideration on this year’s Stonington town meeting warrant must do so to the town office by Friday, January 15. If an article was on the warrant in 2009, a request must be made to the selectmen before the deadline. First-time requests must be accompanied by a petition signed by 53 or more registered voters. On Isle au Haut, nominations are taken from the floor at the annual town meeting; no papers are required. The deadline for submitting warrant articles to the selectmen is Sunday, February 14.
