Five minutes and $95,000 later, Stonington gets a new fire truck

STONINGTON—At a five-minute special town meeting held November 4, a handful of voters gave the green light to the Stonington Fire Department and Board of Selectmen to order and purchase a new E-One tanker/pumper truck. Voters also authorized the selectmen to finance up to $95,000 for the purchase.

The truck will replace the department’s aging (1986) pumper vehicle and will cost approximately $241,000. Of the money needed, approximately $140,000 will come from the town’s fire truck reserve, $12,000 will be donated from the fire company and the rest will be paid for with borrowed money approved by voters.

Once ordered, the truck will take anywhere from six to eight months to be built and delivered.
