On the morning of November 5 the students and staff of both the Island’s elementary and high schools braved the cold and wet snow for their third annual schoolwide health walk. During the week classroom teachers altered their curriculums slightly so that students could learn more about the benefits of exercise and healthier eating habits, and also what affects our health—good and bad. The walk began at the elementary school and continued to the high school, around the parking lots and back up to where it all began. Upon arriving back at their classrooms, a special treat of granola, homemade by school health coordinator Heather Barton-Lindloff, was waiting for them. The entire event was organized and instructed by health aide/education technician Jessica Gillen with help from Barton-Lindloff.
